０２）心はどこに存在するのか

正三角形を思い浮かべてみよう。頭の中か目の前に、イメージが浮かび上がる。これは、脳の或る領域からの電気刺激が原因で、脳の関連領域が引き起こす物理現象の結果なのだろうか。感覚器官を通して外界から習得した言葉、論理、イメージなどを、脳内に記憶として保存し、これらを取り出し、脳内で再び知覚しているだけのことなのだろうか。脳がイメージの浮上に関与していることは確かである。

しかし、心の指令がどのようにして電気刺激に変わるのか、電気刺激がどのようにして心にイメージとして浮かび上がるのか、それらは、科学で解明することができない。これらは、科学の対象域外のことであるからだ。

科学的解明はさておき、心に浮かび上がるイメージは、この時空間（この世）には存在しないものの、確かに意味あるものとして実在している。しかも、各人に共通している。これは、一体どうしたことか。

「正三角形の場合、論理や概念と合致する図形を、学習の結果として、記憶しているからだ」と言う人もいる。しかし、正三角形の概念は、人間から独立して存在する。子供たちに具体的な図形を見せなくても、「三辺が等しい三角形を作れ」と言えば、論理の糸を辿って同じ図形に辿り着く。学習結果としての単なる記憶ではなく、心に湧き上がる普遍的な論理の源としての納得感がそうさせるのである。

それならば、「正三角形のイメージは、各人が共通に心で知覚できる領域（あの世の或る領域・以下、あの世）に、存在している」と考えたらどうだろう。「人間がイメージを生み出すのではなく、本源的なイメージがあって、それを利用することのできる生物が進化によって創造された」という考え方だ。

これは、全ての法則、論理、概念、イメージ、記憶、感情などにも当てはまる。例えば、感情の源となるものは、あなたの心が生み出すものではなく、あの世に初めから存在する。あなたの心は、感覚器官によって知覚する物質域（以下、この世と呼ぶ）の対象に絡めて、あの世から無意識的に、この感情の源に支えられた何かを取り込み、それを具現化した感情として味わっているのである。

色彩についても、同様に考えてみよう。「正常な感覚器官を通したものでも、Ａさんが赤と知覚するもの、Ｂさんが赤と知覚するもの、それらが両者の心の中で同一である」という科学的証明はない。しかし、両者の心が本質的に同じものを思い浮かべているとすれば、赤の本質は、やはり、初めから、あの世に存在していることになる。Ａさん、Ｂさんが心で見ているものは、この世の赤ではなく、それに絡めて取り込んだ本質の赤から来る何かである。

近年、大脳生理学の進歩は目覚ましく、物理脳の各部分が司る機能の解明が着々と進みつつある。そして、一部の大脳生理学者は、「物理脳が全ての精神活動を生み出す」と考え、「心は、物理脳が生み出す幻影のようなもの」としている。しかし、各人の物理脳が、別々に、各人の心の中に、共通の論理、概念、イメージ、感情などを、普遍的な力の支えなしで、生み出すことができるのだろうか。

一方で、「物理脳の各部分が司る機能は、心を通して、それがあの世のどの領域のどの部分と繋がっているのかで決定される」という考え方もある。「心は、見えないラインで繋がっているこの世の物理脳（クライアント）とあの世のサーバー間で、データやプログラムを行き来させるユーザーだ」という譬えが成り立つ。あなたが手元のパソコンのボタンを押すことで、パソコンの特定部分にある機能が作動し、サーバーから必要なデータをダウンロードしたり、パソコンにあるデータをサーバーにアップロードしたりするようなものだ。この視点に立てば、「心は、あの世とこの世を、瞬時に、行き来する存在」ということになる。

ここで、認知症の専門家の話を引用する。アルツハイマー病の脳内に於ける物理的病変は、既に、科学的に解明されている。ナン・スタディ（献体）で、８５歳で亡くなったアメリカの修道女の脳を解剖した結果、アルツハイマー病変の進行段階は、全６段階の内で最も重い「６」であったという。ところが、この人は、生前、認知機能障害が全くなかったどころか、時計を見ずに、時刻を誤差４分以内で言い当てることができたそうだ。この衝撃の事実によって、専門家の間でも様々な議論が行われている。

しかし、前述の通り、「心は、あの世とこの世を、瞬時に、行き来する存在」と考えたらどうだろうか。この人の場合、心が進化した結果、物理脳内の別の部位に代わりのボタンを作り出したということである。

どう考えても、この世には存在しない心が、事実上、存在しているとすれば、「心は別次元に存在する」という前提で考えることもできる。心は、肉体がどこに移動しても瞬時に肉体にコンタクトできる。そして、肉体の感覚器官が直接感知していない空間を想像することができる。このことから、別次元は、空間に制限されない性質を持っている。この世の現時点での出来事とは、直接、時間的に関係のない過去の回想や実現可能な未来の想像などをする心は、その意識（心の顕在領域を作り出す）を現時点だけに制限されてはいない。この世の刺激を受けた時に感覚器官から脳に電気信号が到達するまでの時間差、意思決定をした時に脳から運動器官に電気信号が到達するまでの時間差は、無時間として意識され、同じ時間を長くも短くも感じたりする。意識の経験する時間は、明らかに、この世を作っている物理時間とは異なるのである。アインシュタインが悩んだ「量子のもつれ」も、「観察者の意識が空間と時間を超越することで、何光年も離れた素粒子・反粒子間でも信号は無時間で伝わる」と考えれば説明がつく。心が存在する別次元は空間と時間を超越していると考えることで生じる矛盾はない。

だから、この領域を、あの世という。繰り返しになるが、心は、あの世にありながら、物理脳などを通じて、この世との接点を持つ存在である。

この仮説は、「科学的に正しい」という証明はできない。同様に、「科学的に誤りである」という証明もできない。論理的には、五分五分の立場となる。これらは、科学の対象域外に存在するからだ。この仮説を立てる意義は、ひとえに、「これによって、人間、社会、自然が、矛盾なくスムーズに説明できるかどうか」、「これによって、人々が永く幸せに暮らせる社会を築くことができるかどうか」に掛っている。

科学の対象域外に存在するものは、その大半が我々の五感や通常感覚を超えた世界にあるので、象徴的に或いは譬え話で理解する程度にとどめた方が良い。空間を超えた世界、時間を超えた世界は、通常感覚では認識できない。人間に神の認識力を望むことはできないので、象徴や比喩を含めた人間的な表現、そして、分かり易い単純化した仮説が、「矛盾を含まず、且つ、人間と社会をより良いものにする」ものであれば、それを一つの文化・文明の礎とするような柔軟な知恵が求められても良いだろう。

日本の学界では、超能力の研究に力を注いだ福来博士の事件以来、「科学の対象域外を学者が研究すべきではない」という雰囲気が漂っている。一方、世界の先進国では、科学が使用する論理、推論、手法を応用して、この分野の研究は急速に進んでいる。なぜなら、この分野、即ち、科学の対象域外の世界は明らかに存在しているからである。

因みに、科学や数学の大前提、科学や数学が使用する論理や推論、そのベースとなる納得感・真理感・絶対感も、科学の対象域外にある。
